Recently I had an electric workout! Allow me to explain… I decided to give EMS (electro muscle stimulation) training a go. It’s comprised of device that you are hooked up to, that gets deep into your muscles and causes them to contract and relax.
It’s not exactly new technology, tens machines have been around for years for women in labour, and remember those little leg machines your Mum bought from the shopping channel in the 80’s which gave you mini shocks?! Well, it’s basically a high-tech, revamped, full-body version of those, which stimulates 350 muscles all over the body and is done in conjunction with a 20-minute active exercise program.
So first, you put on a jacket and leggings and then get hooked up to a machine that sends impulses through your muscles. A qualified EMS trainer – in my case Andrew Botten – puts you through a series of exercises with light weights, all the while your muscles are being contracted by the machine, which deepens the level of result you would get with a normal workout.
The results are fantastic! You feel your muscles stiffen within a day and after a few sessions feel everything tighten. The machine caters to all levels and is great for everything from fitness training, muscle building and shaping the body to rehabilitation and improving posture and reducing fat.
Shockingly good!
